Square Footage

1,800 gross square feet |
Program/Scope
|
The senior center addition will provide additional spaces for an expanded program of classes and activities. The separation of the new project and existing center provides easy, after-hours access. The undivided space can be used for large group programs such as dance classes and exercise sessions.
When divided, smaller areas can be arranged for classes, computer workshops, quilting bees, and small group meetings.

Budget / Construction Cost
|
$498,000 |
Unusual Characteristics
|
The building spaces and materials have been designed to reduce the scale of the project and organize the different functions along an internal circulation path that is not a straight line (homelike versus institutional). |
Special Challenges
|
Meeting the special needs of a talented senior population. |
Solution
|
The new addition is accessed from the main building (covered exterior path) or from a new sidewalk at the front or rear of the existing structure. The simple space has been designed to capture daylight, reflecting the warm colors of wood accents and varied ceiling heights.
The final project satisfies all ADA requirements, special "senior" considerations, and energy efficient design criteria.
